Coming to An End

Junior year was full of fun memories. One of my favorites was junior challenge, the day where all the juniors bonded. The next favorite is junior/ senior banquet. I had an awesome time and can't wait until next year. The most important thing I learned this year that I can go and talk to any of my teachers about anything. They always have time for the students and really care about them. My first advice is to always do your homework! It will count against you if you don't do it! Next always study for a test never just "wing it." Last even though junior year might seem stressful the outcome is great.

Imitation is Suicide

In the readying Self- Reliance by Ralph Waldo Emerson, it says that "Imitation is suicide..." This is so true in today's society. We try to do what other people are doing and it all comes down to a big mess that we can't get ourselves out, the only way we know how to get out is by killing ourselves. Something like this happened to me this past year. I lost a very close friend to suicide. It is really hard losing someone you really trusted and they just leave because of everything that was going on in their life. Her family and I knew what she was going through but we didn't think it was bad enough for her to take her own life. I questioned everything at that time in my life. Why would God do something like that to me? Having me lose the one person that I loved and trusted the most. The one thing that got me through that time was prayer and reading the bible. While I was reading one day the verse Proverbs 3:5-6 stuck out to me. It says "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight." This is one of my favorite verses of all time. It says to trust the Lord because in all of this something good will come out of it.

Dying for What You Believe In

It is better to die for what you believe in than to lie to save your life. In the play The Crucible, the character John Proctor dies for what he believed in. He believed in telling the truth because he wanted his name to be good. Rebecca Nurse also died for what she believed in. She didn't want to lie to the church, her family, peers and her church. Proctor and Rebecca both knew they weren't doing anything with the devil but others accused them of that. They both knew what would happen if they confessed and said they were with the devil. That is what Judge Danforth wanted but that would mean that they are lying to God. I think that them dying for what they believed in was really good!

You are never Alone

In English class we are read the poem "Upon the Burning of our House" by Anne Bradstreet, which is about her. Bradstreet's house burnt down which was one of the most tragic things that happened to her. At the end of the poem it talks about how all of her treasures are in heaven. In 2012, I lost one of my bestfriends, my great grandfather. He meant the world to me! I would always call him everyday after school just to talk to him. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2011, they knew he didn't have much time left. When I lost him I felt like I was alone because I just lost my best friend. I cried all the time because I didn't know what to do without him there. I was at home doing homework one night and heard the song "Don't Worry Now" by Britt Nicole. The song talks about how even though you are alone God is always watching over you. I really connected to this song and knew that everything would be alright because I knew that my great grandfather is up in heaven waiting for me to come home.

"I've been trying to find a way to understand, When I can't see the picture of God's plan. Why would He let us hurt so bad? Could anything good come of these feelings that I have?"- Britt Nicole

Home sweet Not Home

We read in English class the autobiography My Sojourn in the Land of my Ancestors by Maya Angelo. The autobiography talks about her home that is away from her home in Africa. My church is my home away from home. I have been there my whole life, I've grown up there. Walking inside of the building gives me goosebumps everytime. Closing my eyes and listening to the worship band sing and praise the Lord. The smell of biscuits and gravy with a hint of coffee on sunday mornings. The feel of the comfy chairs sitting down listening to the sermon, the taste of the mints they give you when you walk in, and being welcomed as you walk in. Being at church makes me think of home. I love my church because it is my second home.

Something Simple

In English class we watched the movie Amazing Grace. The movie is about William WIlberforce and how he tries to pass a bill to abolish slavery. William stresses over the bill and for people to make sure the bill is passed. While watching this movie it made me realized how much effort William put in for people to agree with him for his bill. I started to think of myself and how I should put in more effort and talk to new people each day. We don't know what is going through everyone's minds or how there day has gone. Just a simple "hello" or "how's it going" could change someone's day. The more people that put in the effort to just say something simple like that could change a person.

A Separate Peace Book Trailer

\

A Separate Peace is worth reading. It's about friendship and how everything matters. How you shouldn't take life for granted, how to be thankful for what your talents are and not be jealous. My process for the trailer was finding the right pictures that makes you have to think about the picture. My first image I chose is the stages of flowers. It represents how Gene has matured throughout this book, which goes along in the flowers growth. The flowers need sun and water to grow and Gene needs people in his life to pick him up along the way and help him. Also how life will throw tough obstacles in your way. Gene finds this out very quickly. My second photo is covet. I picked the picture of a couple of little girls who are sharing an umbrella and in the background you see a girl jealous because either that is her friend or she doesn't have any. This relates to Gene because he is jealous of his friend Finny who is athletic and good at everything. Gene wants to be just like him because he thinks he is perfect in a way. My last picture I used is identity. This picture is a hand with the words "Who am I?" Gene needs to find out who he is. Not from what other people are telling him to be but what he wants to be. This book was an amazing book and I would recommend it to anyone.
